And The Survey Says...

Six more weeks of winter!

So, Groundhog Day has a special place in our hearts. Mostly just because we thought the movie, Groundhog Day, was funny, and we kind of like Bill Murray (as an actor). We usually celebrate by watching a movie, coloring groundhog pictures, and having groundhog treats. It gives us something fun to do in February, since I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day. When we moved to Maryland over three years ago, we thought it would be fun (if not, entertaining) to make the trip up to Gobbler's Knob. Each year, for whatever reason we haven't been able to go, but this year... this year was perfect. We had no other trips planned, Groundhog Day fell on Saturday, our affection for the holiday has been slowly waning, and a trip while we still appreciate the day would be preferable... it was as good as planned. We were on our way to Punxsutawney, PA, home of Punxsutawney Phil! So, I checked out the Punxsutawney website for all the info and discovered that, to our utter disappointment, Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney is basically just an excuse for backwoods Pennsylvanians to stay up all night inebriating themselves and then sober up with a big warm breakfast at one of the local coffee shops before driving home drowsy and drunk. Cool. My first clue was (not the cool guys with twisty moustaches and top hats, believe it or not) that they have seperate sections at "The Knob" designated for "students" and "families". Then, when the fine print recommended that we not take small children to "The Knob", that pretty much killed it. So, Groundhog Day was pretty uneventful in our house this year. Aside from a fruitless trip to Ikea and helping some friends install an over-the-range microwave, we just enjoyed each other's company. Like we do every February 2nd. And guess what else,... Spring will still come March 20th, just like it does every year.
Good-bye Groundhog Day. You will forever be remembered (and maybe we'll come see you next year.... just for curiosity's sake, you know).

That is so funny! The nostalgia of Groundhog Day doesn't seem so sweet an innocent anymore. Ah well. You can load up on candy with all the rest of us that gave up on our New Year's Resolutions!

I think it is so cool you guys tried to go to Goblers Knob! Too bad it didn't work out. I have to say I am still impressed with the effort.

Well, I'll cross that one off my list. Going to Punxsutawney, PA was next to The Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade which, we did do and do recommend. The only reason we didn't go see ol' Phil was because Darrel had to work so, I didn't even go to the website to see all the disappointment. Oh, well.
