Owen-isms

Scene: In the kitchen. Bacon, eggs, and toast are cooking.

Owen: What's for dinner?
Me: We're having breakfast for supper.
Owen (looking around): What?
Me: Breakfast for supper.
Owen: What?
Me (getting a little frustrated, but thinking maybe he doesn't know what supper means): Breakfast for dinner. We're having breakfast for dinner.
Owen: (pause)... This is breakfast food?

Owen-isms

We've had an interesting evolution in Owen's prayers recently.

It seems like we've been trying to teach him for a long time to really think about his prayers, rather than just repeating what we say or quickly spitting a couple of things out and ending the prayer as soon as possible.

A few weeks ago one of his grandfathers had surgery, and for some reason that seemed to hit home with him. Every prayer for over a week (meal prayers included), he would ask that Grandpa get better from his surgery and not get any more kidney stones.

And now.... we've entered a whole new world of prayers from Owen.
Owen's family prayer the other night included such gems as:

"...please bless everyone in our family, I mean everyone in the world to get better in three days like (what's His name? Jesus?) after he died...."
and
"...please bless everything twice and thank triple...."

So if you need any special blessings, just let us know.
We'll pass it on to Owen.

Owen-isms

On the way to a friend's house about thirty-five minutes away, we were listening to a Disney cd, specifically to "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" from The Lion King. When it came to the chorus...

Simba: I just can't wait to be king!

Owen: I can't wait until we get there.

Owen-isms

Dave: You're getting so tall Owen.

Owen: How would you know?

Owen-isms

It was cloudy in Maryland the day we left for Hawaii. We boarded the plane, took off, and ascended above the clouds. Then Owen remembered something that Evie had said earlier that day. He threw up his window shade and searched the cloud cover outside...
Owen (in an angry voice): Where's Jesus?! I want to see Jesus!
Me: You have to die first, buddy.
Owen: I want to die!
(There is a huge background story leading up to this that I won't even attempt to abridge. Obviously, it's not the end of it either.)

Evie-AND-Owenism

(while wrestling with Dad)
Owen (in his meanest face and voice): Git in jail! And here, git some bad snacks!
Dave (holding back... never mind, laughing out loud): Bad snacks? What kind of bad snacks?
Evie: Yeah, like soda... and Coke....
Owen: Yeah, git some soda and Coke and bad snacks.
(because, of course that's why we don't want to go to jail...
unhealthy snack choices. those poor poor inmates.)

Dad: Wendy's doesn't have donuts.

I snuck out the camera and zeroed it in, oh so quietly. Then he heard the auto-focus beep, and...
"No cheese. I can't cheese right now, I'm playing legos."

Oh yeah, and I cut, er....butchered his hair.

Owen-ism?

What happens when you are an attention starved two-year-old and Mom's friend comes over on an icy February day?
Owen wanted to play with Carrie, so he brought her the curlers. She happily obliged and said her favorite part of the activity was that Owen kept repeating his favorite phrase,
"I'm a big boy!"

Should I worry about gender confusion?

Sweeney Todd?
(he's carefully showing us the curlers.)

For some reason, he calls Cheetos "bones".

In a restaurant after we let Owen play with the sugar packets and he had happily strewn them all over the table:
"I made a me-ess! I made a me-ess! I made a me-ess!"
He was doing a little dance.
