28 = Flowers

Before I was married, I lived with some amazing girls. We had great traditions like MTV dance parties every afternoon, posting random pictures with other peoples faces on them around town, and making impulsive decisions - like deciding to make a one day trip (three and a half hours each way) to Lake Powell for The 4th of July in a car without air conditioning, AND without directions (well, there were some vague directions jotted down on a napkin). Oh and we bought each other flowers on our birthdays. I've forgotten how much I love fresh flowers. So, on to my point... I was remembering this tradition last Saturday before my birthday when we were shopping and walked past some flowers. I may have suggested that Dave get me some flowers and then walked around the corner. And then I may have come back and told him which ones I would like. How it happened is not really the point though, because what's important is that Dave got me some flowers for my birthday. Red roses. Kind of a burnt red. Really, very pretty. And they look so good on my table. Isn't that nice. And then, the day after my birthday, I received a package first thing in the morning from two of my amazing roommates (and one of their amazing husbands) and can you guess what it was? Irises. The cutest little irises you've ever seen just sitting there waiting to bloom. More flowers! And then! Another one of my good friends brought me a card and told me how she had planned to get me some flowers, but the selection was a little... shall we say Decemberish. More flowers! I can't believe it. I feel so spoiled. Especially because, since my friends couldn't bring flowers, she brought me chocolate. Yum. If food is the way to a man's heart, then chocolate and flowers are sure the way to mine! Oh yeah, and jewelry! Dave sneakily got me a pearl strand I wanted. What a sweetie. Then we went to Famous Dave's for dinner and came home for the 'Sjauna's traditional birthday Boston Cream Cake and Cookies and Cream ice cream'. With two candles (that's not part of the tradition). And two little munchkins that I love to help me blow them out. What a birthday! Everyone should be 28 at least once.

I had a lot of fun taking pictures of my roses (and editing!). I had to show off. I'm doing some of the irises too, but that will take a couple of days while they bloom.

Haha! You didn't tell me your old roommates got you flowers too! Now I'm really glad I didn't just buy you the ugly ones.
