To All The Lay-dees

The two photographers in my life.
This picture was taken almost exactly one year ago at a hole-in-the-wall little Mexican place in Leona Valley where my family likes to eat. I was looking for a picture of my madre and myself to use for this post, and this was the only one I could find. I can think of two others that exist - both taken before the digital age, and not readily available, which means I will not use them. Because I'm lazy. I thought we'd covered this.
So, moving on... I thought since today was Mother's Day, I would make a little shout out. Not only to my fantastic mother up there on the left (because she is fantastic), but to a lot of other... women. I'm not a huge fan of the word woman or women (unless it's Little Women, then that's okay). I just think it sounds matronly - which is another word I am not a fan of. Let's just be feminine and say ladies. But you can't just say it 'ladies'. It has to be 'lay-dees' and you have to think of them as princesses when you say it.
So again, moving on... I've been thinking recently (sometimes I do that) about some of the wedding gifts that I received soooo long ago in 2002, like my Honeywell fan that I have upstairs running twenty-four hours a day from May to September. Or the three pack of cookie sheets from Costco that I use at least twice weekly(not just for cookies. geez, give me a break). Or the bazillion pack of dish towels (also from Costco. I love Costco.) that I use not only as dish towels and hand towels, but also as hot pads and oven mitts, and I didn't even register for them (although if Costco had a registry, I probably would have). And I was thinking that I need to get some new dish towels. And I was also thinking about the people who gave those things to me. And I remember them. They were my Mom's friends. I remember them, because they were there. They were there when I was growing up, and those lay-dees had a huge influence on my life. My Mom's friends, my friends' moms, my leaders at church, my aunts, my grandmothers, and even just random lay-dees that happened to be part of my life. There are so many women (okay it's just feels natural to say women here, forgive me) that have had such a huge impact on my life just by being who they were. And there are new lay-dees now - at church, my friends (because I am a lay-dee now, so my friends are lay-dees now), my husband's co-workers and their wives, my daughter's friends' moms,... and they have an influence on me. Just by being who they are. You. Thank you for being you, and teaching me. Happy Lay-dees Day. Yes, I'm talking to you.
