Did anyone else think Christmas on Tuesday was great? It felt like it really stretched the holiday break out a little. Of course, January 2nd came out of nowhere, but anyway...
After several days of sitting around the house playing with all our new toys (and a few hours of work for Dave), we decided to get out of the house and do a fun family activity. Since shopping as a family is only considered 'fun' by one of us, we had to find something else to do. The Chesapeake Children's Museum in Annapolis was offering admission for three items of non-perishable food, and we had never been, so we thought we would check it out. We talked to Evie about people who have little or no food and then took her to the grocery store where she helped us pick out some great non-perishable items for them like, mac 'n cheese and Dora Spaghetti-O's. Then we went to Annapolis. In my opinion (take it as you will), the museum could definitely use a face lift... and maybe a cleaning crew, but the kids had a blast. The turtles kept Evie occupied for what would have been the whole trip if we didn't encourage her to look around, and any place with a train table is good for Owen. Other highlights included a giant boat to drive and just climb all over, multiple kitchen and pretend play areas, and a craft table - complete with all the glue and tape a four-year-old girl could want. Other than that, there were probably a billion random toys in various states of disrepair strewn all over the place for kids to pick up, explore and then chuck when they get bored - think of a church nursery.
After the museum, we made our way to downtown Annapolis for lunch. I love that place. Walking around is like being in history. And the kids like to take turns in the stroller on the bumpy brick sidewalks. We grabbed some lunch at the little indoor market/food court thing down by the water, ate in the sun, and then walked down to the drawbridge to look at the sailboats. When it was time to make our way back to the car, it had warmed up enough that we stopped at Kilwins for some delicious ice cream. I had some chocolate banana flavor. YUM! and I don't even like banana flavored things. It was so good!

I love taking our kids to the childrens museum! They get to pretend they are ants in an ant hill, or pretend they are chefs in a sushi restaurant. Where else can you do that kind of stuff. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun.
